Saint Lucia Parrot (Amazona versicolor) |

‘Standoff’ … Saint Lucia Parrot confronts a Green Iguana climbing towards its nesting hole in a Mahogany tree. Tupelo, Bass and Acrylics
|
This beautiful parrot is found only on the island of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean and is one of the world’s most endangered birds. This parrot was declared Saint Lucia’s National Bird in 1979 and an urgent National campaign was launched to rescue this incredible bird from certain extinction. Captive breeding and strict conservation laws have given the species a fighting chance, today only about 250 birds remain in the wild.
